Short profile:
Ante-natal care: We offer shared care with local hospitals:postnatal and baby checks are carried out at the surgery about 8 weeks after delivery. All mothers should attend for a routine examination and discussion of any problems. Well Woman: This includes cervical smears, breast checks, blood pressure and urine tests. Contraceptive advice is also available.
We recommend smear tests for all women between the ages of 25-64, and we will remind you when your next smear test is due. Child Health Clinics: We hold a weekly clinic for babies & children up to 5, which is run jointly by the doctor, practice nurse & health visitor. Some minor surgery procedures can be carried out at the surgery:you will need to be seen by one of the doctors before attending the minor surgery clinic.
Many diabetic patients receive ongoing care at the practice.
Detailed description:
Asthmatic patients see the nurse; she can work with them to improve management of their condition. All patients over the age of 75 should be seen every year by a member of the practice team for a general assessment. If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.
Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work. Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service. The Little Venice Medical Centre is committed to providing high quality health care in the heart of the local community. The Practice was established to help provide for the medical needs of the local community and we are based in a purpose built building on Crompton Street in the heart of Little Venice.
We are a National Health Service centre, providing most services free of charge and through our GMS partnership contract with Westminster PCT we now look after 5, 000 patients. Little Venice Medical Centre is led by one principal GP, supported by three salaried doctors, a practice nurse, a healthcare assistant and a strong administration team. The GP’s work closely with the District nursing team and with the local community and hospital based services, and hold regular multi-disciplinary meetings.
