My career in mental health began in 1989. I practiced as a qualified Clinical Psychologist, within the National Health Service (NHS), between 1992 and 2006. During this time I held a variety of NHS Clinical Psychologist posts and gained a broad range of experience. This included making psychological assessments, delivering therapeutic interventions, training health professionals, supervising other therapists and managing psychological therapy services. Detailed description:
I offer psychological assessment and, when appropriate, therapeutic interventions to adult clients (aged over 16 years) who are experiencing psychological difficulties. Appointments will usually be one to one, although if you would like a friend or relative to accompany you this can be arranged. My approach to therapy is eclectic, and includes cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and schema therapy.
There is now a strong evidence base for the use of CBT and it's use is recommended in the National Institute of Clinical Excellence's Guidelines for Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Bulimia Nervosa. However one approach will not suit everyone.
By taking an eclectic approach I aim to tailor therapy packages to suit individual needs and preferences. I also offer supervision to appropriately qualified therapists.
