Short profile:
We utilise treatment modalities from a number of the practises under the umbrella of physical medicine, which both serve as an alternative or complements orthodox medicine. Practitioners from the fields of osteopathy, physiotherapy, acupuncture, reflexology and personal training can contribute to your complete health care experience. Our osteopath team primarily work through the neuro-musculo-skeletal system, mostly on muscles and joints, and pay special attention to how the internal organs affect, and are affected by, that system. Relevant psychological and social factors also form part of the diagnosis. Another important principle of osteopathy at The Wellbeing Centre is that the body has its own self-healing mechanisms, which can be utilised as part of the treatment.
Detailed description:
Osteopathy is a natural approach to healthcare which utilises the skill of clinical diagnosis and physical medicine to treat ailments ranging from back pain to arthritis. It is a manual medicine that encourages movement of the body to return to efficient normal function, which will then enable the body to 'help heal itself' from any disease or stresses it may have developed. We provide healthcare through touch and manipulation of the body and its tissues, with the aim that, if the biomechanics of the body and its tissues can be returned towards efficiency, then some or all of the patient's symptoms will be resolved. The sense of touch is extremely therapeutic and something that osteopaths incorporate within their work. Your Osteopath at The Wellbeing Centre will use palpation and observation to make evaluations of how soft tissue factors relate to the state of the internal environment of the body.
This enables your osteopath to form an individual treatment plan. An osteopath will consider the interplay between the emotional and physiological state of an individual and the physical condition of the body and see a person as an interlocking relationship of body, mind, and soul. We believe that restricted movement within parts of the body and soft tissue tension could be related to physiological problems within the body. This could affect to body's ability to adapt and to heal itself.
By improving body movement it is thought to promote emotional health and physiological efficiency, and therefore overall health. A healthy individual requires his body, mind and soul to function properly, as a dysfunction in any one will compromise health. A problem in one part could also be expressed through a problem in another.
