Short profile:

Pilates is a great way of keeping fit, improving balance, stamina, flexibility and muscle tone, and is a gentle, enjoyable exercise that improves all-round health. This site provides information and answers questions about Pilates, and the sessions that Karen offers in her town-centre studio. Pilates is a total body/mind technique and as such does not seek to isolate limbs or muscles, but to stabilise the body and when the stabilising element is functioning correctly, then to challenge that stability with movement, and so require concentration and focus. It’s not about exercise, it’s about movement and how to use your muscles in a controlled way so that they work for you in harmony with the breath. Pilates strengthens the body through movement so that the muscles you work will become muscles that work for you in every day activities.

Detailed description:

Born in Jersey. I live with my three children my son Keon, also my two older children from my previous marriage, Ieuan and Peyton. I have a very busy life enjoying spending time with my children. Taking them cycling, walking and many after school activities such as football and swimming. I also make a point of finding time to partake in my own training, and enjoy spinning and weight training. Fitness has always been a large part of my life, and a great passion of mine.

Eight years ago I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to turn my passion into a career and make it my profession. As a child I was very competitive competing in cross country and javelin at school. Leaving school I joined the local gym and also rowed for the Jersey rowing club for four years. I then became a traithlete, training and competing in the local events. For the past eight years I have been a fitness, Pilates and Spinning instructor, working and teaching around all the local gyms in Jersey, (Fort Regent, Springfield, Les Quennevais, Club Carrefour, Carrefour Metro, Les Ormes and Fitness First) Having worked in the gym environment helping clients with their weights and cardiovascular programs, I soon found I also had a passion and a flair for various classes such as spinning and Pilates.

I travelled to the UK to obtain qualifications to be able to teach spinning first then Pilates, which I enjoy immensely. I have then since been away many more times to obtain more qualifications to enhance my knowledge and be able to specialise more with my teaching skills. One of my qualifications is the Wright Foundation Referral Programme Consultant which allows me at Fort Regent and Springfield to work in the gym and teach Pilates, where clients are referred to us by their local Doctors, Physiotherapists and the hospital. Our clients come to us with various medical conditions, injuries and recovering from illness or are post operative.
