You might be considering Counselling or Psychotherapy because you are currently experiencing some sort of relationship problem, stress, anxiety, sadness, distress, discomfort or concern in your life at the moment. It might be affecting your day to day life, significant life choices or they might just be bothering you a little, but significantly. Counselling works to enable you to facilitate choice or change or reduce confusion, allowing you to move on in your life in the best possible way for you.
Counselling helps you deal with your life, day to day issues and problems so that they have less of a negative effect on your wellbeing. Psychotherapy operates similar to counselling but tends to be long term and deal with deep-seated personal issues which, if you want to change, may bring about profound changes in your personality.
It is a sequence of specialised counselling sessions over many months that looks at your experiences, how they affected you, how they happened, how they still affect you and this awareness enables you to change in the best way possible for you.
