Short profile:
Joseph Swan School is named after the pioneering inventor who worked so successfully in the Gateshead and Tyneside areas during the 19th century. The school opened in 1996, following the amalgamation of two neighbouring high schools. Built to accommodate 1300 students aged 11–18, our school roll is 1260 with waiting lists in three year groups.
We are a specialist Technology College and, for the last four years, have been a proud member of the Specialist College Trust’s “Most Improved Schools Club” and “Most Value Added Club”.
Ofsted confirmed we are a good school and we aspire to be outstanding in the next inspection. Raising achievement is at the heart of everything that we do at Joseph Swan. We work from a strong philosophical position that every child can achieve and that belief informs all our work.
We are an open, welcoming school and are proud of our partnerships with our Cluster Primary Schools, local Colleges and a wide range of training providers.
