Short profile:

The James Wigg Practice has been in Camden since 1887. The practice only offers NHS services and does not provide private health care. The tradition is to provide our patients with the benefit of a very extended primary care team. To this end, we have a large number of attached staff and facilities for our patients to benefit from. This ranges from employment advice, to finance and debt advice as well as the professional help from a wide range of more than 10 different counselling services.

Detailed description:

The James Wigg Practice prides itself on a full maternity service. This includes antenatal clinics run by our linked midwives from University College London Hospital. We also provide maternity links with the Royal Free and the Whittington Hospitals. The majority of our patients are seen in our UCH midwife based clinic here. Those having antenatal care at the Royal Free and the Whittington do not normally attend the antenatal clinic at the James Wigg Practice.

A pregnancy pack is available with information concerning your pregnancy when you first inform us of your pregnancy. The antenatal referral is done at this time. The midwives generally hope to see you within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Your records are important to us and are treated completely confidentially.

All staff have to sign and abide by a strict confidentiality agreement. We have a long history of high prioritisation of confidentiality in the work place and amongst our staff. Your permission will be required if a report is requested by the Citizens Advice Bureau, or other agencies acting on your behalf such as solicitors requiring medical reports etc.

Terrible practice. I booked an appointment 2 weeks in advance (this was the soonest). My appointment was at 3 and I arrived at 3, queued for 3 minutes. When I got to the desk the woman said I was late and I said no, I wasn't. She said "It depends on what clock you're looking at" She then apologized and said she was looking at the wrong day. I was told to grab a seat and ten minutes later was called up to be told that I was too late, the nurse wouldn't see me. I was really shocked and angry. By then it was 14 minutes past and the second receptionist said she hadn't been there when I'd arrived so couldn't say if I'd been late or not but that they couldn't take patients who were more than ten minutes late. I felt like I was in crazy land and asked what clocks they were going by. She said they only use their computer clocks. After asking them repeatedly what time their computer clocks said, they gave 3:30 as the answer. This being ten minutes faster than the world time zone clock. I tried to show them but they were rude and refused to see me. In the first instance, it was important I saw the nurse then as I was getting immunized for foreign travel.I was ill at the time and thus found it difficult to get to another centre and pay for my vaccinations. This surgery does not operate properly. Setting clocks ten minutes past and forcing patients to adhere to that time is criminal. If the NHS pays the clinic for every patient visit and patients aren't being seen, it actually is criminal. Disgusting!
