Short profile:
IPSEA is a registered charity offering free and independent advice to parents of children with special educational needs in England and Wales on: local authorities’ legal duties to assess and provide for children with special educational needs; exclusions of children with special needs/disabilities; actions or inaction by local authorities and/or schools which discriminate against children with disabilities. IPSEA is a volunteer-based organisation and many of the volunteers providing telephone advice and Tribunal support are themselves parents of children with special educational needs who have been helped by IPSEA.
Detailed description:
IPSEA was established as a voluntary organisation in 1983 and registered as a charity (number 327691) in 1989. Originally IPSEA was a small organisation of special educational needs professionals (mainly educational psychologists). Over the last 20 years, IPSEA has evolved into a national charity providing free legally based advice.
IPSEA leads the field in the provision of free special education needs / disability advice and campaigning. From a small group of professionals, IPSEA now has approximately 150 volunteers and 5 part time staff members.
IPSEA is now a parent-led organisation with the majority of our volunteers, members and Trustees being parents/carers of children with special educational needs.
