Short profile:
We at Hydrosurveys are always keen to hear from forthcoming or recent graduates with an interest in the type of work that we undertake. Whilst we may not always have a suitable permanant position to offer you, please do bear in mind that we take on graduate staff each year through the summer months, to assist with field surveys in aquatic environmental assessment, fisheries, hydrography and surveying. The work is interesting and varied, carrying responsibility and offering opportunities to broaden and advance your career by touching upon a wide range of high profile issues affecting the water environment today.
Our base is at the Company’s office in Kenilworth and involves work away from the office, normally a few days at a time, on project locations around the UK coastline, estuaries and inland rivers.
Detailed description:
The firm specialises in the freshwater and marine environment. We provide a niche service that brings together conventional surveying skills, with specialist scientific expertise in the aquatic environment. We were the first hydrographic and environmental survey company in the UK to gain ISO 9001-2000 certification and market awareness of our activities has developed very rapidly. Much of our work is linked to pre and post project monitoring and impact assessment of river engineering, re-alignment schemes, water transfers, sea defences, flood control and the monitoring of coastal and estuarine processes.
We presently operate with a core team of specialist consultants with expertise in marine surveying and marine/freshwater biology. We draw extensively upon an established network of associate consultants to provide specified inputs on a sub-contract basis. Our principal clients include the agencies, water companies and local authorities who have responsibility for managing rivers and the coastal zone. A significant proportion of our clients are from the private sector, including developers and businesses involved in power, aggregates and recreation.
The breakdown of our present work varies seasonally, with an approximate 50%:50% split between survey projects and desk-based consultancy. We have a healthy mix of marine work, inland waters and water utilities. A selection of recent and current fisheries projects are attached under Projects sheet 4 as an example of the spread of our activities. We are interested to hear from technically qualified surveyors, as well as scientists with training in aquatic biology, fisheries or water quality.
