Description Hope (For Autism), Airdrie
HOPE for autism was established by a group of mothers who were unable to access the help they needed for their children in North Lanarkshire. In 2002 HOPE became a registered charity and established a support group for parents and carers, HOPE is the only post diagnostic service in North Lanarkshire. In June 2006 HOPE moved to the HOPE Centre in Chapel Street, Airdrie and now provide activity groups for young people aged 4 - 21 years of age over 6 days.
Trustees The board of trustees comprises of parents and professionals who are responsible for the governance and strategic overview of the charity. The board is recruited through advertising and direct contact, all recruitment is based on having a board that has a range of expertise that benefits the organisation. The trustees meet ten times a year. There are sub-committees which meet as required and report back to the board. Carol Russell - Chair of the Board of Trustees Carol was Vice Chair of HOPE when it became a charity in 2002 and has been involved in supporting parents for the last 18 years. After a spell of studying, she took up the position of Chair in Oct 2010. Her daughter has Severe Autism and she works as a Speech and Language Assistant Practitioner.
Over the years she has been involved in various multi-disciplinary Autism groups, to help improve the services of Autism in Lanarkshire. Stuart Robertson - Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Fund Raising Committee Stuart is the Vice-Chair of HOPE and Chair of the Fundraising Committee. He is a Community Police Sergeant in Coatbridge and has had links to HOPE since 2008 when his daughter started attending the groups. Andrew Lindsay - Trustee Andrew has recently joined HOPE as a trustee. He has been a member of HOPE for the past couple of years as his son who has ASD attends HOPE. He has a BA and LLB in law and also a Diploma in Legal Practice.
He has been working as a Paralegal for 12 years and is hoping that his legal experience can help HOPE. Lee Mowbray - Trustee Lee has recently joined HOPE as a Trustee. He has had links to HOPE for the past couple of years as his son who has Asperger’s Syndrome attends HOPE. He has a Diploma in Interactive Media and is especially interested in raising HOPE’s profile via social media and the web.
