Short profile:

We now offer a range of after school clubs five nights a week. Monday: beginners hockey. Tuesday: Football in the Community. Wednesday: Art/Dance or Drama.

Thursday: Homework support. Friday: Advanced hockey. The children have additional opportunities to learn in classroom time; the recorder, develop dance/drama skills, singing skills, studying French.  Children from the school enacted a piece of dance drama at our local 'Courtyard' theatre as part of a gifted and talented initiative. Children took part in a 'drumming day' where they were given experiences of drumming from different parts of the world and then had to perform to parents and staff.

This was also part of a gifted and talented initiative.      A group of year 6 children presented a video diary of a story called 'The Enormouse' to the county's teachers and pupils.

Detailed description:

P.S.H.E. and Citizenship programme provides knowledge and skills about healthy eating, life-styles, personal relationships and citizenship.

Holme Lacy School has the Active Mark.

School Policies and the school curriculum ensure child safety, internet safety and promote pupil self esteem.

All school adults are committed to the safeguarding of pupils.

Promote physical exercise through our P.E. and 'brain gym' programmes.

Foundation, key stages 1 and 2 are all now involved in the government 'healthy eating' project which provides fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.

Emergency services give talks about safety and emergency situations.

Year 6 are involved in 'Crucial Crew', an initiative to train children for emergency situations.

Breakfast club and cookery club promote healthy eating.

Cycling Proficiency is offered to Year 6 pupils.

Older children support younger children through a "buddy system".

Ofsted said that "the quality of care, guidance and support provided for pupils is good, as are the school's safeguarding procedures".

Pupils aspirations are raised by visits from people from a range of professions to enhance their future economic well being.
