Short profile:

Hitchin Girls' School is a single-sex, all-ability community school with 1080 students on roll, including 266 in Years 12 and 13 and a teaching staff of 75. The school occupies a pleasant site on the top of Windmill Hill with its own playing fields and woods. As well as general classrooms, we have specialist teaching areas for Art and Design, Food, Textiles, Graphics and Resistant Materials, ICT and Business Technology, Drama, Mathematics, Music and Science.

Detailed description:

We hold the coveted Sportsmark Gold for our extensive programme of sporting activities. - Students take part in school, county and national competitions.  Most of our clubs are inclusive. - We won the Comet's Sport Award 2005.

- The Artsmark Silver recognises our rich programme in Music, Art and Dance. - The curriculum is enriched by visits to the theatre, ballet, art galleries and places of worship etc, by residential courses and trips to Italy, Greece, Eurodisney, important European and American art galleries and the French and German Exchanges.

- A variety of lunchtime clubs reflect staff and student interests e.g. drama, classics, chess, art, science and astronomy.
