Short profile:

The environment is right at the core of the Highways Agency business, and we are committed to achieving the highest standards of performance, taking opportunities to achieve real benefits, and minimising the negative consequences of our human desire to travel. As the operator of England's motorways and trunk roads, we have a responsibility to road users and to those affected by the operation of our network to minimise and mitigate the negative impacts of our roads and enhance the quality of the surrounding environment.

Detailed description:

The Agency uses safety cameras as one of measures to help improve safety. There are fixed safety camera sites, mostly on all purpose trunk roads, which are operated within local Road Safety Partnerships. Motorway Service Areas (MSAs) and other roadside facilities perform an important road safety function by providing road users with the opportunity to stop and take a break in the course of their journey. We have a small corporate centre in London and a further seven offices across the country. We also have traffic officers working on motorways (and some all-purpose trunk roads) based in seven Regional Control Centres and 31 outstations.
