Highways Agency Traffic Officers are now managing and monitoring traffic, helping coordinate responses of other emergency services and reopening routes when the police have completed their investigations. We are responsible for the operation and stewardship of the strategic road network in England on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. The strategic road network consists of motorways and major trunk roads; other roads in England are managed by local authorities.
