Short profile:
The staff, children and governors of Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary School welcome
you to our school. Hertingfordbury is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary
School. The school was founded in 1837 in Hertingfordbury and later moved to Birch
Green. Henry Cowper and the Parish Church provided the Endowment from which the
school has developed. Since then children have been educated from Hertingfordbury, Birch Green and the surrounding villages and our catchment now includes the edge of
Hertford, Welwyn, Panshanger and Hatfield.
At present there are just over 150 children in the school from nursery to Year 6. The
school comprises of the original building, new classrooms which are well equipped and a
heated indoor swimming pool, all standing in large beautiful grounds.
Detailed description:
As a church school the Christian ethos underpins everything that we do and we are
developing close links with St. Mary’s Church and the local community. The Vicar is a
regular visitor to the school and leads a weekly assembly.
At Hertingfordbury we value the worth of every individual and believe that education
should be an everyday experience in an environment that is stimulating, happy and safe.
We endeavour to give the children the best education available in the local area and
hope that your child’s learning will be an exciting and enjoyable process.
The school was judged by Ofsted in 2003 to be “a very good school and one where the
children’s attitudes, values and behaviour are excellent and as a result the children
consistently achieve high standards.”
We cannot possibly cover all aspects of our school in a prospectus. We hope we have the
answers to your questions and that our prospectus will tell you what you need to know. In
order to capture what our school is really like we invite you to visit and see for yourself.
Our partnership with you as parents is an essential part of our work. We hope that your
association with Hertingfordbury School will lead to many rich experiences and we look
forward to teaching your child and trust that he/she will benefit from and enjoy the
years spent at Hertingfordbury.
Supporting your child with their homework is a valuable and important activity. Please
help your child by:
Developing a homework routine.
Allocating time at home for reading.
Taking them to the local library.
Encouraging them to learn their spellings and times tables.
Setting aside a quiet place for your child to complete their homework.
Following up the ideas on the termly plans for ways in which you can support the
curriculum.
Encouraging your child to look up words they do not know in a dictionary and find
information on their own.
