Helme's Pet Supplies is a small family run business, based in the small Fylde village of Salwick, near Preston. Richard and Kellie took the tenancy of the Duchy of Lancaster 200 acre sheep and beef farm in August 1996.
Detailed description:
The pet business was started up in November 1998 with the purchase of a machine for packing hay, straw and woodshavings as pet bedding. In the early days we supplied a few independent wholesalers. In November 2002 we purchased a wholesale business and started supplying retailers directly. We continue to expand our range.
The hay used in Helme's Pet Bedding is grown on our farm. The grass in the hay meadows is left to grow until mid summer when it is mown and left out in the field to dry in the sun. The grass is turned every day until it is dry and ready to be baled.
