Short profile:
Haslemere Police Station is to stay open at lunchtimes in a bid to improve its service and accessibility to members of the public.
From Monday (March 1), the police station will be open Monday to Friday from 9-30am to 4-30pm. Previously, the station had been open to the public from 9am to 5pm but had closed between 1 and 2pm for lunch.
Haslemere counter clerk Colin Grafham, who works at the police station on a job share basis with counter clerk John Wells, explained: "It is quite common for people to call between 1 and 2pm, expecting it to be open. We felt that it would be better to stay open for the whole day and open slightly later and close slightly earlier. We rarely get any callers before 9-30am or after 4-30pm anyway."
Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm
(closed 1.30 – 2.20pm).
Detailed description:
The counter clerks at Haslemere deal with a number of different issues on a daily basis, including production of vehicle documents and reporting of crime. They are also regularly asked for directions. The clerks can also pass information arising from local incidents or areas of concern to the local Neighbourhood Specialist Officers, PC Rob Hawkes, who covers Shottermill, PC Ralph Swindell, who covers Haslemere North and Grayswood, and PC Damion Berridge, who covers Churt and Hindhead.
