Detailed description:
Outdoor Education courses at Hamworthy Outdoor Education Centre (HOEC) provide ideal vehicle to approach learning via adventurous activities, giving both depth and integration to the curriculum. Careful course design in consultation with individual schools ensures that educational objectives can be achieved through direct learning experiences in this superb environmental setting. The Centre has three powerboats. All the powerboat courses will be run in and around the magnificent Poole Harbour. All of the courses are taught by RYA Powerboat Instructors. We cater for a wide range of abilities and ages from beginners to more advanced kayakers, working on the open sea, kayak surfing, white-water rivers and rolling courses. Assessment for British Canoe Union awards is part of every full course.
We have 10 different types of kayaks and canoes in our fleet. The Centre runs Health and Safety HSE approved courses ranging from 1-3 days. This course is for people who currently hold the First Aid at Work certificate. The two day course will revalidate your current certificate for a further three years. Please note that this course can be taken up to three months before, or 28 days after, your current qualification runs out. Holiday Adventure Courses have been designed to let you try a selection of activities with the assistance of qualified staff from the Outdoor Education Centre.
Activities on offer include sailing, kayaking, climbing, powerboating, canoeing, abseiling, caving and coasteering. Abseiling is part of any rock climbing session booked by a group. It is included in the cost as part of the activity. The centre also organises sponsored abseils for charities from the water tower at Mannings Heath. It was the first organisation ever to do so from here and has run over 80 of these events.
