Hairmyres Hospital is a district general hospital with a 24-hour accident and emergency department. It has 492 inpatient beds.

A full range of inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic and clinical support services; Lanarkshire's only cardiac catheterisation centre consisting of two new state-of-the-art catheterisation laboratories for diagnosis and treatment of blood vessel blockages around the heart; MRI and CT scanners; Psychiatric beds.
Detailed description:
Hairmyres Hospital’s Emergency Department treats around 170 patients a day.
Patients present themselves to the department with a variety of conditions across all age groups.
It is our aim is to see, treat, discharge or refer 98 per cent of these patients within the Scottish Governments national waiting time guarantee which is within four hours of their arrival.
Naturally anyone who arrives at the Emergency Department with a serious or life threatening condition is dealt with instantly.
However, Hairmyres Hospital’s Emergency Department now has a service where all those who present themselves at reception with a minor injury or illness are directed to a dedicated service. This means they no longer have to wait until emergency patients are seen first. This area has its own dedicated staff and equipment.
All these patients will be seen by a doctor or a nurse who has undertaken an extensive educational programme and is able to see, treat and discharge patients with a minor injury or illness.
