Gwent Police cover an area of 600 square miles bounded by Abergavenny in the North, Newport in the South, Chepstow in the East and Caerphilly in the West. The Gwent policing area is mixed, rural and urban, and the road network carries large volumes of traffic through the M4 link to the East, which now incorporates the Second Severn Crossing. The Gwent policing area comprises several dedicated Neighbourhood teams made up from regular Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers who are responsible for policing on a Ward level.

Response officers are responsible for attending the most urgent calls for police service throughout Gwent. The investigation of crime is a specialist area of police work and Gwent Police has a dedicated Criminal Investigation department. Crime Investigation tackles a wide range of crimes including burglary and car crime to very serious offences like the supply of controlled drugs, murder and terrorism.
The Organised Crime Unit tackle all aspects of serious and organised crime within Gwent. The unit comprises the following specialised teams.
Providing expertise and inter-agency liaison in areas of domestic violence, child protection, vulnerable adults and dangerous offender profiles.
