Short profile:
The Inquiry is entirely Independent, but is not a Parliamentary or Government inquiry, and is being conducted publicly by The Rt Hon Lord Lloyd of Berwick. Lord Lloyd of Berwick has had a long and very distinguished career in the legal profession and, as a former Law Lord, sits as an independent member in the House of Lords. The now retired Dr Norman Jones Consulting Physician St Thomas’ Hospital (Emeritus) is assisting Lord Lloyd. The Inquiry is also fortunate to have the resource of the very experienced Sir Michael Davies, former Clerk of the Parliaments.
Detailed description:
Following enormous effort by The Royal British Legion, various Gulf War veterans associations, the legal profession and parliamentarians, the overwhelming consensus was to call for a public inquiry to report upon the circumstances that have led to ill health, to British troops following deployment to the first Gulf war. The time is now right for a full Independent Public Inquiry. There will be public hearings conducted by Lord Lloyd of Berwick, after a period spent collating data. A list of witnesses and a timetable will be devised and posted onto the website. The venue of the Inquiry is to be decided and will of course be posted onto the website, when it has been agreed.
