Short profile:

Guildford Lions was formed in 1967 and in recent years has about 40 – 50 members. All are committed to providing service in the community by fund raising and providing a helping hand.Members meet at a monthly Business Meeting held at the Waterside Centre and are usually a member of a committee organising fund raising events, or deciding who should receive help and assistance.Guildford Lions is part of Lions Clubs International (LCI) the largest service club organisation in the world with almost 1.5 million members belonging to nearly 42, 500 Lions Clubs in over 178 countries and geographical locations.Guildford, like all other Lions Clubs, have the motto:We serve.Guildford Lions has the reputation for holding first class events in the town of Guildford and we are sure you would enjoy them. Detailed description:

Bill joined the Club in 1969 and was first President in 1974/5 following which he has served in the Club in a range of activities, particularly fundraising such as the annual Fireworks Fiesta. He has also served as a South East District Officer over many years including District Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations and International Relations. In 1997/98 he became District Governor and has since held various National appointments covering Membership, Disaster Response and currently Marketing & Public Relations, always with the support of his wife Heather, who passed away last year. Heather and Bill had three children, the eldest of which Robin, also became District Governor in 2007/8, and younger son Kelvin and daughter Susan, and now has four grandchildren.

He is also involved as a Trustee with other organisations relating to glaucoma, sight and the field of emergency and crisis management, the latter following an international career in civil aviation and command and control of related major UK and international incidents. When he has time to spare he enjoys sea and river activities, travel in general, good food and reading. He is also a Freeman of the City of London.

In the year ahead Bill will be steering the Club in its wide range of fund raising projects and developing new opportunities and social events, as well as increasing public awareness of its wide range of activities in the local community.
