Short profile:

Grimes House Gallery, Superb selection of quality original paintings, specialist dealers in antique cranberry glass, Caithness glass, paperweights, artist materials, stationers, in Cotswold town of Moreton in Marsh

Detailed description:

The glass which became known today as cranberry was probably first produced in Bohemia in the early 18th century, of course at that time it was not known as such but, more correctly as a type of ruby glass. This delicate and much loved colour of glass is made with a thin layer of ruby over or inside a thicker layer of clear.

The heyday of Cranberry glass making was from 1870 - 1930 by which time it was produced in England, France, Belgium, Bavaria, Bohemia as well as the U.S.A.

The glassworks of America were mainly in New England, this just happens to be where cranberries are grown, so then, just as now, never short of a good idea when it comes to marketing names, the term Cranberry Glass was coined and it does describe its beautiful colour so very well.

From all these makers and many more, including numerous continental factories, comes the antique cranberry glass that we sell. We always have over 200 pieces for sale, but our glass collectors' weeks in June and November bring a phenomenal variety unequalled world wide for range and quality. With prices starting from £20 up to £1, 000 there will be something for everyone, a must if you love Cranberry Glass.
