GREAT ABINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Detailed description:

We are changing our long term planning this year to introduce more active learning through a cross curricula approach based on a theme. Classes 1 and 2 will follow the same theme with activities around the six areas of learning or the Foundation stage curriculum. KS2 classes will plan together all following the same theme for a term with differentiated planning promoting the development of key learning and thinking skills taken from the National Curriculum. The after-school clubs that will be available at different times this year include football; tag rugby; textiles; business and enterprise; ICT; French; Running; drama; choir and construction club. With the financial support of parents we take the children on many visits and invite visitors to the school to extend the opportunities for learning around our topics. Last year we went Ice Skating, had a visit from the circus, visited Wimpole Hall and Thetford forest and had a wonderful day of skipping workshops. Years 6, 5, and 4 had the opportunity for residential visit to North Norfolk following up on geographical objectives.
