Short profile:
There are eight territorial divisions within Strathclyde Police, each headed by a divisional commander. Each division is divided into sub divisions, serving the public at a local level. Delivering police services in the midst of Scotland’s unique geography and climate requires a number of specialist units to complement traditional policing, such as our highly trained police dogs, mounted police officers, underwater search and rescue, and helicopter support. You’ll also find our ‘beat cops’ saving lives on Mountain Rescue teams or making music with the world-famous Strathclyde Police Force Pipe Band. Partnership working is an essential part of modern policing and Strathclyde Police works closely with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory agencies to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.
Detailed description:
Socialising is a major part of life for many Scots; pubbing and clubbing often being weekly events. But with excess drinking and drug use now common features, people can end up doing something out of character, which they may later regret. By taking a few sensible precautions and following some simple safety tips you can keep yourself safe and enjoy the entertainment. Tips to bear in mind when out and about partying are: Be prepared – plan ahead, know how you are getting home and remember to keep enough cash for your return journey. If not using public transport, try and pre-book your taxi, or arrange a lift home. Do not accept lifts from cruising cabs or touts and try to travel home with a friend. Be aware - avoid isolated areas. Don’t take short cuts through dark alleys, parks or across waste ground and keep to well lit, busy areas. Walk facing the traffic so a car cannot pull up behind you unnoticed. Remember safety in numbers – stick with your mates. Make sure your mobile is charged and has credit – keep it safe and do not leave it unattended. Stay in control of your drinking, remember you are more vulnerable when drinking – never accept a drink from someone you do not entirely trust. Don’t leave your drink unattended, even if just going to the toilet. If out with friends, appoint a 'drinks watcher' (perhaps someone who is not drinking alcohol) who can ensure that the drinks of everyone in your party are looked after. If you begin to feel excessively drunk after just a small amount of alcohol, seek help from a trusted friend or a member of the club or pub management. It is important to get to a place of safety as soon as possible. Don’t leave parties with strangers. Have your keys ready when approaching your car or house. Do not leave bags unattended – when in restaurants and bars, always keep them where they can be seen.
