Short profile:
For too long Rapeseed and its wholesome properties has been a well kept secret. Rapeseed is actually something of an ancient crop having been grown by the Romans before gaining popularity across Europe from the Middle Ages, prized as it was for its gentle and versatile properties.
Detailed description:
In case you don't know what Brassica Napus looks like (that's Rapeseed to you and me), look no further than the swaying fields of bright yellow flowers that scatter the fields in Spring.
Ever since the earliest days Rapeseed has been valued for its natural health giving properties.
More specifically, it is…
Low in the 'Bad' saturated fats.
Half the saturated fats of olive oil.
High in the 'Good' Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats.
High in Omega 3 and Omega 6 the essential fatty acids that promote healthy cell growth and general well being.
Up to ten times higher in Omega 3 the important fatty acid that is so often sadly lacking in our diet and three times the levels of Omega 6 than olive oil.
An excellent source of Oleic Acid in the form of Omega 9.
A great source of the anti - oxidant Vitamin E, which helps to counteract free radicals which are known to cause damage to the body and can even promote the onset of cancer.
It’s versatile oil because it will hold its integrity at high temperatures, so unlike olive oil you can use it effectively for all your cooking needs.
Chefs appreciate the fact that in addition to its other benefits, it compliments their cooking, enhancing not overpowering subtle flavours.
To ensure that we hold in all the goodness and the natural flavours of the oil, we only make extra virgin oil. That means that we only ever cold press our seed, and it is pressed but once and we add nothing. The result is a pure and simple Somerset oil, just as nature intended.
Not surprisingly then Fussels Rapeseed oil tastes great. It has a distinctive yet light flavour that makes it ideal for use in all of your culinary masterpieces, or indeed a quick sneaky snack.
Try it in salad dressings, for light frying, roast potatoes, deep frying, marinades, making dips and...... well just use your imagination.
