Friary Wood is a splendid house in the country offering Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
With the renovations completed at the end of 2008, John and I are now thrilled to be able to welcome you to our home in this truly magnificent country house.
We have ten rooms with either en- suite or own private bathroom spread across the upper two floors of the house – and each has been designed to make your stay luxurious, relaxing and enjoyable. From the absolutely huge master suite which can sleep up to six and with a bathroom you’ll just want to wallow in, to the smaller but no less luxurious top floor rooms that combined also work exceptionally well as comfortable family suites.
Detailed description:
The name Friary comes from its relationship to the Carthusian priory which existed at Hinton Charterhouse between the thirteenth & sixteenth centuries. The village, just about a mile away, has a long and fascinating history much of it due to the Priory. A larger village south of Frome called Witham Friary also has connections to the Carthusians. On some early Ordinance Survey maps it is shown as Friary Green but is known locally as simply "Friary". There are very little standing archaeological remains of the buildings used and lived in by the lay brothers but there is evidence of contemporary construction in one of the remaining cottages and the remains of a mill adjacent to the river Frome are still visible.
