Short profile:

The Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre provides a high quality intensive inpatient rehabilitation service for adults and adolescents (16-65 years) with traumatic or acquired brain injury.

The modern centre is situated within the grounds of Frenchay Hospital in Bristol and enjoys pleasant views of the wooded nature reserve. We aim to create an environment that is welcoming, comfortable, supportive and safe and facilitates a positive attitude to recovery and maximises the quality of life and independence.

Working in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, the centre has excellent access to all the facilities, knowledge and resources of the local Frenchay Teaching Hospital and regional Neuroscience Directorate.

Detailed description:

We provide a comprehensive assessment, rehabilitation, therapy and community integration programme for people with physical and cognitive impairment and people with challenging behaviour following brain injury. We also provide SMART (Sensory Modality Assessment and Rehabilitation Technique) assessment for people who are in a minimally conscious state.

The centre has two full-time NHS medical consultants; Dr Angus Graham, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, and Dr John Holloway, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, giving us the unique combination of a consultant specialising in the physical aspects of rehabilitation and a consultant specialising in the cognitive, emotional and behavioural side of brain injury.

The centre also has a hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium, activities of daily living kitchens, separate therapy rooms and two minibuses. The centre offers a nutritious varied menu, including special diets, and patients have the choice of three hot and cold options for lunch and the evening meal. Breakfast is more a ‘continental’ style meal. Patients and their visitors have the opportunity to prepare beverages, drinks, snacks and meals in one of the kitchens.
