I strive only to use traditional methods and materials in the restoration and conservation of antique furniture. I can make a site visit to view the condition of a piece of furniture, then give a written condition report/work estimate. Alternatively you are free to visit the studio for a consultation.
Detailed description:
I would like to encourage a wide variety of people to come to my purpose-built studio and have a go at working with wood. My aim will be to tailor-make the time you spend in my studio to your level of knowledge and practical experience. For the beginner, this will mean learning the basics like how to use hand tools (chisels, drills, saws, hammers, etc), about wood (varieties, uses, solid, veneer boards, etc), different fixings (hot animal glues, modern glues, screw fixings, dowelling, etc), and practicing different finishes (raw timber stains, wax stains, wax polishes, shellac polishes, varnishes, etc). Once you are confident you have the basics, you can choose from a variety of individual or linked projects.
