FVS employs former RAF Intelligence Analysts and is a specialist forensic imaging laboratory based in Cambridgeshire. Their experience includes: analysis of military reconnaissance photographs, satellite imagery, CCTV, intelligence, photographs and surveillance videos.The company specialises in writing imagery and audio related reports for the police, the Home Office, HM Customs, Immigration Service, Solicitors and the CPS. The work can be as diverse as the people they work for but in essence most of the reports involve the comparisons of a suspect with the accused. This may involve examining clothing, faces, bodies, vehicles, audio tapes and scenes of crime photographs.Case Study. At the Old Bailey, FVS were the chief prosecution witness in a “perverting the course of justice” trial. A landlord had been accused of tampering with a CCTV video recorder whilst a murder was occurring. The CCTV video was mysteriously missing 1-2 minutes of video.

FVS analysed the equipment and found it to be in working order. However, after performing some tests they discovered how the “missing video” may have disappeared. In court FVS demonstrated their findings. The jury decided that the video system had been tampered with and found him guilty. FVS’s experience has enabled them to apply specialist skills to the field of forensics. Often they can extract more information from a photograph that we can see ourselves.

This is because our eyes can only see a small number of grey levels. By using image-processing software it is possible for FVS to see more information and look into the shadows. Photogrammetry is used to provide the heights of the offender, clothing is examined to provide comparisons and facial mapping is used to compare faces.In the case of a murder FVS were able to identify 200 cars that passed a public house at the time of the murder. The report was useful to the police in the identification of a suspect car, believed to be the getaway vehicle.Estimates are free.
