For the past 15 years Ian has been working as a Finance Director for high growth technology companies including Skype, Phone.com, XcelleNet and Silicon Graphics. At Skype, Ian joined as Group Finance Director, initially part time, when they had zero revenue and just six employees. Less than 2 years later, Ian was part of the core team that sold Skype to eBay for €2.5 billion.
Previously, nine years in public practice provided Ian with considerable exposure to a variety of businesses.

Flexible CFO Limited provides a flexible, part-time finance director resource to bridge the gap until you need a full time employee. This could be an hour a week, three days a month, a couple days a week or any permutation – it’s completely flexible.
In April 2004, Skype had six employees and no revenue. They didn't need a full-time Finance Director but they needed a senior Finance person in the team part-time. They brought in Ian Fulton of Flexible CFO Limited two days a week.
At Flexible CFO you get access to an experienced Finance Director quickly and directly. We give you the freedom to choose the support you want on a totally flexible basis; we could work two days this week and four hours next week – it’s really up to you.
A conversation, although a little contrived, might go like this:
Entrepreneur: “I’m planning the recruitment of my senior team at the moment – I won’t need a Finance Director until the end of next year.”
Flexible CFO: “But how do you plan to manage your finances over the coming period?”
Entrepreneur: “We have an administrator and a book keeper who between them pay the bills and provide us with the basics.”
Flexible CFO: “Does this meet your needs?”
Entrepreneur: “Well, not really, but we can’t afford a full time Finance Director so I use the resource we have and fill in
where necessary.”
Flexible CFO: “Isn’t that a distraction from growing and managing your business?”
Entrepreneur: “Yes, and I don’t always feel I have the right experience or expertise.”
