FIRLAWN HOUSE

Updated 4 months ago

Short profile:

Firlawn has two buildings which operate as two smaller homes, yet benefit from having one team of nurses, carers and domestic staff. The older building has 14 single rooms and the newer building has 24 – all of a good size, all with televisions and many with en suite facilities. In both houses, passenger lifts allow residents and visitors to travel easily between floors.

All private and communal areas, inside and out, are accessible for wheelchairs with ramps where necessary. The two main buildings are set in beautiful, mature gardens with interesting walkways, a picturesque thatched summer house and patio areas providing a wonderful setting for exercise and relaxation.

Each house additionally has a sitting room and dining room overlooking the gardens, giving residents the choice of dining alone in their rooms or in company with others. We do everything we can to encourage social activities in the communal areas.

Detailed description:

When we founded Firlawn in 1987, we had one aim – to provide better care than was available elsewhere in the area. Since then, this has been our driving principle, ensuring that our clinical standards, our amenities and environment, the catering and leisure activities we provide, continue to be of the highest standard. Just as important to us and to our residents is the happy, friendly atmosphere at Firlawn House, where we do everything we can to encourage independence and fulfilment for our residents. This is the result of painstaking selection and development of all our staff, placing as much emphasis on their personality and attitude as their professional skills. We believe that people should come to our home and be able to enjoy living with a good social life and plenty of activities that they can enjoy if they wish. Our aim is to stimulate the mind and body.

Many original works of art, some painted by residents hang on the walls, and each home provides facilities for playing music on the pianos. Weekly music and movement classes, are a very popular event. Residents with even quite severe disabilities surprise themselves at how creative they can be. Regular card and board game sessions are always a firm favourite. At Country Care Homes, we firmly believe that providing excellent care goes beyond fulfilling all clinical and professional responsibilities to ensuring that our residents have an enjoyable and stimulating time with us.

In our view, therefore, the food we provide has to be more than just healthy and nutritious. It also has to be a pleasure to eat. So we place great emphasis on the quality of food prepared for our residents, and are very proud of the standards of presentation and flavour that our chefs and their teams achieve. To ensure the quality of all ingredients remains consistently high, we receive deliveries of fresh meat, vegetables and fruit.
