Short profile:
Findern School has occupied its current site since 1923 when it was built to serve the rural
communities of Findern, Stenson and Twyford. At that time the three villages were of a similar size but, as time went by, Findern grew rapidly towards the west whilst Stenson and Twyford retained their original size and character, leaving the school in its unusual rather isolated location. A number of extensions were added to the building during the 1930’s, 1970’s and 1980’s to provide accommodation for as many as 200 local children. At present we have approximately 123 children on roll.
Throughout all these years the school, in partnership with parents, has made every effort to maintain and improve its educational provision with a traditional emphasis upon providing a foundation in basic subjects.
Detailed description:
We believe that children learn in many different ways and that all children are good at something. We therefore organise a range of non curricular activities to provide children with opportunities to enjoy success in other areas.
We organise educational visits for all children and arrange visits from travelling theatre groups etc. to bring further enjoyment to their learning.
Though not a large school we try to provide extra curricular activities for children including; football, netball, kwik cricket, recorders, choir, computers and board games. We encourage children to learn a musical instrument and we have visits from music teachers for strings, woodwind, brass, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums.
We enter teams into football and netball leagues and tournaments in both sports, plus a swimming gala at the end of the year.
Year 5 children have swimming lessons and also the opportunity to attend a residential visit at an outdoor education centre.
Every year all children in the school are involved in an end of term school play, the infants at the end of the autumn term and the juniors at the end of the summer term.
