Short profile:
The school`s main aim is for the children to be able to learn to their full potential. We will help them to grow as young people, well prepared for the next stages in their learning and able to thrive in our complex and challenging society. In order for the children to be able to learn we set out to provide an environment in which pupils feel secure and are able to develop their own self-esteem. We emphasise respect for others and a sense of personal responsibility within the community.
Detailed description:
They are delighted that OFSTED visited them and agreed with them that pupils’ personal development is outstanding. The wider perspective of pupils’ learning is central to our school aims alongside the highest possible standards across the curriculum. It was pleasing that the local paper, the Cheddar Valley Gazette, reported the inspection judgements in the following way; ‘The sparkling OFSTED report showers praise on a school that has many strengths, high standards and good achievement’.
For those of you new to the area, the educational system in the Cheddar Valley comprises of nine First Schools (ages 4 to 9), two Middle Schools (ages 9 to 13) and The Kings of Wessex Community School (ages 13 to 18). We are very pleased to be a part of this federation of schools.
Somerset LEA is the admission authority for our school and places will be allocated in accordance with their published arrangements. Copies of these arrangements can be obtained by calling Somerset Direct on 0845 3459122.
At Fairlands Middle School we welcome parental involvement in your child’s education. Indeed parents strongly support us in our educational, social and fund-raising activities. Similarly, we are greatly indebted to the local community, private individuals, local associations and members of the business and commercial sector. We regard it as essential to develop a partnership between home and school.
