It was rare and expensive and very difficult to find a prescription house brave enough to have a go at glazing it into any sort of sunglasses frame and so invariably it ended up being put into standard spectacle frames, which was rather pointless. Rather than stick with the idea, when Ray Ban were swallowed up by the Italian giant Luxottica the genuine prescription Ray Ban sunglasses programme was thrown onto the scrap-heap, which is a shame because you would expect the world's number-one selling sunglasses to be able to cater for people with poor eyesight!
