The reality for many sadly, is very different. The relaxing freedom simply does not materialise. Certainly they will be living in their own home with little or no mortgage and of course, there is true satisfaction in that. But the ordinary cost of living is high and getting higher and worse, what seemed like a perfectly satisfactory pension at the beginning of retirement, is now nothing like enough. The elementary comforts that a lifetime's toil should have guaranteed are simply not affordable.
