Colon Hydrotherapy is a way of cleansing the bowel in a gentle way using warm and purified water to flush waste and toxins from the bowel and promote good bowel health without the use of drugs or chemicals.
The bowel, colon or large intestine is the final part of the human digestive tract which ends at the anus. It's main functions are to eliminate waste and absorb water and these two functions have a major impact on the good health of the whole body.
A typical Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment will last around 45 minutes. Depending on the individual history a number of treatments may be recommended. No fasting is necessary before a treatment but a large meal or a lot to drink just before a treatment are not recommended.

Colonic Hydrotherapy (also called Colonic Irrigation) is by no means a new therapy. It was first documented in an ancient Egyptian document in 1500 BC and mentioned in the writing of Hippocrates in Ancient Greece. It has been used in various ways throughout the intervening centuries to promote good bowel health.
Right up until the earlier part of the last century, enemas - where water is introduced into the lower part of the bowel and waste allowed to flow out - were quite commonly used within the medical profession to treat many conditions but as drug treatments for many conditions became more common so Colon Hydrotherapy fell out of favour and suppositories and laxatives were used instead.
It must be noted that Colon Hydrotherapy has many other benefits in addition to just the quick elimination of waste and unlike the use of laxatives the bowel does not become dependent on their use.
Colonic Hydrotherapy devices form completely enclosed systems. Following the completion of a comprehensive medical questionnaire and a very brief rectal examination, a small sterile tube called a speculum is inserted a few centimetres into the rectum. Slowly water heated to around body temperature, enters the body under very low pressure through the water inlet pipe attached to the speculum.
