Equal Say has been providing independent advocacy for adults with learning disabilities in Greater Glasgow since 1995. Equal Say was originally established for the residents and ex-residents of Lennox Castle Hospital, an institution that was situated in Lennoxtown, about 10 miles North of Glasgow. Many of its residents had lived there for decades and had no experience of making choices and living as individuals.
