Short profile:
The immunology department provides a service for the diagnosis and management of many allergic conditions including: anaphylaxis; angioedema (swelling of the skin) and urticaria (skin rash); drug allergy; food allergy; latex allergy; rhinitis (irritation of the internal nasal area); insect venom allergy.
Detailed description:
We are able to perform: skin prick tests and intradermal tests; specific IgE measurement (the antibody Immunoglobulin E); supervised food or drug challenges. We provide an immunotherapy (desensitisation) clinic and are able to undertake both subcutaneous and sublingual desensitisation therapy. There is specialist nursing support to provide patient and carer training in the recognition and management of anaphylaxis, and allergen avoidance.
