Enterprise Inns plc was formed in September 1991. Our success is founded upon the key principle that a retailer has ownership of their business whilst at the same time Enterprise Inns provides the individual support required. We call this approach ‘Retailers in Partnership’.
Our Code of Practice explains in greater detail the complete relationship and describes fully the level of support you will receive as an Enterprise Inns retailer and also your obligations.
Enterprise Inns provides the opportunity to select the right agreement for you. Discounts are available through negotiation and are also related to the type or style of business you are planning.

Running a pub is a serious business and Enterprise Inns wants to make sure that you are fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead. You need to spend sufficient time to ensure that you know as much as possible to help you select the right pub, the most appropriate form of agreement, the skills and qualifications that you need and the support that we will offer.
There are alternative ways of starting a career in the pub industry; you may choose to buy your own pub and operate it as a free house, or you may become an employee and work as a member of staff in a managed house. These options are not available with Enterprise Inns, as we only offer pubs to be operated under lease or tenancy agreements, our clear area of focus and expertise since the company was formed some twenty years ago.
We also require that you read in detail our Code of Practice. This sets out our commitments to you, spelling out in straightford terms the way in which we will work together.
If you wish to run any pub, you must first obtain a personal licence, which is portable. Every pub needs an individual premises licence, and applications for both are dealt with by the relevant local authority. Your local authority website will give you all the information you need to make a licence application.
Enterprise Inns firmly believe that relevant training is simply paramount to the success of our business, this is why we have developed a series of training courses, ranging from our award winning five day induction course, The Business Foundation Programme, to our new and highly effective WILMA, (Winning in a Local Market Area), new retailer programme and FRED (Food Retailing Education & Development).
We offer a whole host of one day workshops to help you hone skills in Finance, Wine Retailing, Marketing and Selling Skills, even First Aid. All our training has been developed following considerable retailer research, feedback and more importantly evaluation.
