Short profile:
Emmanuel is in the heart of Cambridge, in a main shopping area, yet is off the tourist track and never feels crowded or pressured. It is one of the larger colleges in Cambridge, a community of more than 600 people. At its head is the Master; there are some 80 Fellows, around 450 undergraduates and some 150 graduate students in residence at any one time, and a large permanent staff. The quality of the educational experience with which Emmanuel provides you will depend both on those who make their lives teaching and researching in this College - the Fellows - and on those who will share your time at the College as your contemporaries. That is why we take the process of selecting and admitting Emmanuel students, of supporting them while they are here, and of providing their teaching, so seriously.
Detailed description:
Emmanuel's extensive grounds are sited near the centre of Cambridge and are both beautiful and peaceful. The buildings range from the medieval to the late twentieth century and the gardens have extensive lawns, magnificent and rare trees, and ponds that are home to large numbers of ducks and fish. It is easy to forget that this setting is separated by only a few yards from a vibrant city centre. The only way to really appreciate Emmanuel is to visit but this section attempts to give a flavour of the College: its history, the people involved and the environment. Emmanuel College hosts a wide range of events including weddings, conferences, dinners and summer parties for businesses, arts organisations, charities, academics and last, but by no means least, the general public.
Those taking the opportunity to stay in the College include long standing Summer Schools and a variety of business and corporate clients. The University of Richmond Law School has been coming to Emmanuel for over 30 years and Oxford Study Courses have based their Cambridge programme at the College for the last ten years. The College has built an excellent reputation amongst businesses and within the University for its fine dining. Whether a corporate business dinner or a family celebration, our menus cater for a wide variety of tastes and styles and the College wine cellar is legendary.
Whether your event is a small, intimate meal for a special occasion in the beautiful Fellows' Breakfast Room or a banquet in our magnificent, panelled Hall with its oak benches, you will find food of the highest quality and the service impeccable. Emmanuel College is a very special venue for a wedding. Front Court, with the magnificent Wren chapel, is amongst the most beautiful in Cambridge and the tranquil gardens provide a matchless location for drinks and photographs.
