Detailed description:
At Elphinstone we believe that all children have a right to succeed. All children are valued equally and are entitled to maximum access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
We are aware that during their schooling some pupils will have special educational needs and we seek to ensure that these children make progress across the National Curriculum according to their abilities.
The school is aware that it is the responsibility of all those concerned with SEN children to identify them and ensure their needs are met, incorporating the resources of the whole school.
The school will teach children with SEN together with their peers for most of the time, withdrawing them for individual or small group work as necessary to address individual needs.
The school will address the needs of SEN pupils using a targeted approach that includes the involvement of staff, parents, and pupils and, where necessary, collaborate with outside agencies.
The school will use the staged approach, as outlined in the Code of Practice to address the needs of pupils with learning needs, emotional behavioural needs and complex needs.
The school will give parents access to the SEN policy and offer a summary policy document.
