i was a resident at brenda house in 2002. i left the project myself and was given another chance and blew it again. i was given an ultimatum by social work which meant i had no choice but to come to brenda house but i wasn't at that point where i felt i needed help and didn't take advantage of the help being offered. now when i'm back to my old self and totally substance free ( for a few years now) i look back and realise that the staff at brenda house gave me an opportunity that i was too stubborn and too caught up in my own problems to accept the help they were offering. i think this is a fantastic project and wish i had took advantage of the help they offered away back then. one-to-one counselling, self-help groups, help in budgeting your money, day-trips, cookery nights - the list goes on. i just want to take this opportunity to thank the staff for the effort they put in to trying to get me on the mend and if any other women are in the same situation i was in and are offered a placement at brenda house then i recommend that they grab it with both hands and take off running. ive had more lost years through substance abuse than i dare to remember and if i had only knuckled down while i was at the project then my life would've been so much better so much sooner. thank-you guys for all the help you gave me and i hope you have loads of success with your future residents.
