In recent years we have published climate change sceptic Nigel Lawson’s controversial An Appeal to Reason and enjoyed phenomenal success with Max Brook’s Zombie books. Julia Child’s My Life In France part-inspired the film ’Julie & Julia’ starring Meryl Streep and Hippie Hippie Shake Richard Neville’s classic 60’s memoir has been turned into a feature film, as was J.J. Connolly’s cult gangster novel Layer Cake.
Duckworth offers work experience for up to two weeks. Though the tasks assigned vary and can be mundane at times (photocopying and filing), a placement with Duckworth offers a valuable insight into working in the publishing industry.

Gerald Duckworth and Company Ltd was founded in 1898, and has published classic authors such as Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence and Hilaire Belloc, also Evelyn Waugh and Beryl Bainbridge.
We remain an independent publisher owned by former penguin CEO Peter Mayer. In addition we hold the Ardis imprint, a list of Russian literature in translation, and are associated with The Overlook Press in New York.
Duckworth General publishes literary and commercial fiction and a great range of non-fiction, including history, biography, current affairs, popular science and travel. We have published a key work by leading futurist Ray Kurzweil, The Singularity Is Near and books by noted thinkers Mary Warnock and Bernard-Henri Levy.
Past and eclectic titles have included The World History of Beekeeping and Honey Hunting, Belly Dancing for Health and Relaxation and Taxidermy: A Complete Manual.
