Detailed description:
We have many extra-curricular activities including football, netball, karate, general sports, ICT, choir, recorders, orchestra, art, drama and table tennis. We are proud to have been awarded the ActiveMark for achievement in sport.
The arts play a big part in our school, as recognised by the award of our silver Artsmark. We have several peripatetic instrumental teachers. We are beginning to build up a collection of instruments for pupils who are unable to acquire their own (starting with five trumpets). Every child in Y3 and Y4 has the opportunity to play and learn a musical instrument (recorder) as part of the curriculum.
Children in KS2 have two opportunities to attend a residential visit, one to Filey and one to an activity centre.
Involvement with the Theatre Royal's PET project in 2007 (Partnership in Education and Theatre) included every child.
Sport opportunities are seized as they are offered, such as tag rugby, cross country, athletics and the use of Oaklands climbing wall. Enrichment activities during the school day, taught by specialists, include Italian, sport, swimming, RE, music and drama.
In September 2007, we introduced a 'Cook School' run by parent volunteers which is extremely popular.
