Short profile:

I have experience of assessing a wide range of mental health problems and am skilled in managing emotive and difficult situations. I work with adults, children and young people who are struggling to cope with a variety of complex emotional difficulties. I have worked with individuals with complex mental health needs within the NHS and my own private practice. Such difficulties include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, attachment difficulties, violence and abuse, autistic spectrum disorder, and issues associated with loss and anger. I also specialise in working with people who have very complex problems including eating disorders, deliberate self-harm, suicidal thoughts and personality disorders.

Detailed description:

Many of the people I work with and treat have had histories of difficult early life experiences, including sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and or neglect.

I have also worked successfully with people who have experienced a wide range of traumatic experiences including bullying and harassment, domestic violence, and one off traumatic incidences such as accidents, operations and physical health difficulties. I have also worked extensively with children at risk, in need and in Looked After Provision and adults who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System. As a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, I am trained to use a variety of treatment approaches and draw upon various aspects of a number of therapies as appropriate, since the person's needs tend to change through the course of therapy. I often use Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as I have found these to provide good results in the past. I will make decisions regarding treatment choices with you. Following assessment we will discuss what I think might be useful and what your preferences are. Treatment will then be led by my expertise in what works, and your preferences. Assessment will usually take 1.5 hours, subsequent sessions typically last one hour. EMDR sessions are usually undertaken in either 1 or 1.5 hour sessions. EMDR generally generates quicker results than pure talking therapy and therefore takes fewer sessions to produce the desired outcome.
