Description Downsway Primary School, Tilehurst
We provide a variety of extra curricular clubs run by staff, parents and outside agencies (e.g football, dance, judo, cricket, choir, art, gardening, frisby, ICT & ECO club).
This year Eco club members visited a local wind turbine to learn about renewable sources of energy and global warming and have also produced a film on this subject using facilities at the University of Reading.
We take part in local football matches and cross country competions.
Our choir takes part in the Reading schools' annual music festival at the Hexagon theatre.
We have established a vegetable garden through the gardening club.
The year 6 children attend a residential trip to an activitiy centre, where they take part in several outdoor adventure activities (e.g quad biking, orienteering, abseiling). They also participate in a countryside day at Englefield House.
This year, year 3 children participated in a government funded scheme to learn how to play a musical instrument (e.g. violin).
All children in KS2 have timetabled French lessons.
Children have opportunity to join in extended schools community activities.
Year5/6 children attend an after school "kids college" at our local secondary school during term time.
