DOVER GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

The Humanities specialism is truly embedded within the school now, with so many different initiatives and projects, involving all kinds of people and subject areas – note that there have in fact been over 230 different ‘enrichment’ opportunities for students since September, many of which come under the umbrella of ‘Humanities’!

An assortment of projects continue, including our primary enrichment programme, our secondary school outreach work, our work with the RSC, our International Status work, the Literacy Leaders training, and the fantastic collaborative work which continues to take place between History, Art and a range of school partners, particularly English Heritage. In short, as a school community we are involved in some very exciting initiatives. Initiatives that allow us to offer some unique teaching and learning opportunities in order to develop, challenge, enthuse and inspire us all.

Perhaps more than anything else, and, again, as I have said many times before, the impressive charity work that students undertake throughout the course of an academic year is a prime example of the school’s Humanities ethos at work. I am pleased to say that so far this year we have managed to raise over £8, 000 – again, an impressive amount of money, and more than had been raised by this time last academic year. Many future charity events are planned; in particular I know that some students are looking at ideas in order to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal and Sport Relief. As always, thank you for your hard work in raising so much money for so many worthy causes.
