A voluntary group of parents working hard to support each other in helping their children with Down's syndrome to reach their potential.
The Upper School on Middlefield Lane is situated in the original building of the school. This building has seen some major redevelopment work take place over the summer break of 2006. Bringing the facilities bang up to date, ensuring that the young adults of 14 to 19 have an environment ideally suited to there learning needs.
Detailed description:
The Dorothy Goodman School is located on two sites. Both schools are well equipped to educate children with severe learning disabilities to profound multiple learning disabilities from the ages of 3 through to 19, taking into account their every possible need.
Dorothy Goodman School aims to provide a safe, stimulating and caring educational environment, in which all children are able to learn and develop their social, creative and academic skills
Throughout the curriculum, students are encouraged to have an understanding of themselves and the world about them, enabling them to become self-confident young people and to develop skills in a setting which is both structured and caring.
We provide access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, with a wide range of learning experiences available. Also we recognise the need to offer specialised educational work, depending on the the identified needs of the pupils. As students move to our Upper Site at age 14 they undertake a range of accredited work.
