Birthlight is an organisation dedicated to promoting greater enjoyment of pregnancy birth and babies. The founder Dr Françoise Barbira Freedman developed her ideas whilst observing Amazonian parents and babies during her work as an anthropologist in Peru. She watched families playing in the rivers and was fascinated by the way even small babies learn to float, play and swim with their parents.
Detailed description:
Sally Lomas and Amanda Walker are the creators of the Dolphin Birthlight baby swim school and directors of training for Birthlight Teaching LTD.
Our aim is to empower you the parents, to teach your baby water confidence. The Birthlight technique has been developed over many years’ experience and uses yoga as an underlying philosophy.
The programme’s aim is to help both parent and baby to relax and bond in their shared experience of the water. The stable base of trust is formed and the baby can move happily into exploration and the journey to independent swimming.
Birthlight has designed routines and sequences for babies to help develop a sense of safety in and around the water, whilst keeping the emphasis on the idea of imaginative play.
